Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia Nikola Selaković talked over the phone today with the newly appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs of Guatemala, Mario Adolfo Búcaro Flores.
Congratulating to Minister Búcaro on his hew position, Selaković emphasised that Serbia is dedicated to cultivating friendship and enhancing overall cooperation with Guatemala, particularly in the light of the significant jubilee we are marking this year: 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs stated that in the previous period intensified political dialogue and contacts at a high level took place, but also indicated that it is necessary to enhance economic cooperation as well.
Selaković singled out agriculture, processing industry and tourism as fields in which potential for partnership could be recognised, but also stated that it would be useful to organise business forums, in which businessmen of the two countries would participate.
Referring to cooperation in the education field, Selaković expressed his satisfaction because students from Guatemala apply to study in our country, and stressed that this year, within the ”World in Serbia” Programme, more scholarships have been provided for students from this country.
Serbian Minister thanked in particular to Guatemala on its principled position on the Kosovo and Metohija issue and the support provided to us by this country in international organisations.
The two ministers talked about the fight of their countries against coronavirus, and Selaković said that Serbia is ready, within its capabilities, to send aid to Guatemala.
